Beyond Lounges launched in April 2022 and are offered to invited guests, including decision makers from the airline’s largest corporate accounts and leaders from business, sport, tourism and society.
In Brisbane, works on the domestic Lounge, which opened more than a decade ago, are expected to finish by mid-2027. The refurbishment will add about 100 seats, power at every seat, new furniture, upgraded bathrooms and showers, and refreshed décor and greenery. Guests will also get a four-person enclosed meeting room, individual pods for work and calls, a self-service beverage area and floor-to-ceiling windows. The upgrade will bring the Lounge closer in design and functionality to Virgin Australia’s Melbourne domestic Lounge and its flagship Adelaide Airport Lounge.
Beauty brand, hairdryers and hair straighteners
The airline has also partnered with beauty brand Shark to install its hairdryers and hair straighteners in Lounge bathrooms nationally, and said further refurbishments across its domestic Lounge network will follow over the coming years.
Virgin Australia group chief executive Dave Emerson said the investment was a significant step forward in the airline’s customer proposition.
“We’re investing significantly across our lounge network because we know how important the lounge experience is to our guests, particularly those travelling frequently for work,” he said.
“Perth is an incredibly important market for Virgin Australia, and we’ve seen strong growth among both our corporate customers and our most loyal Velocity members.”
Emerson added that the investments reflected the airline’s commitment to a better guest experience “while continuing to invest where it makes most commercial sense”.
Chief customer officer Andrew Cleary said Virgin Australia would “continue to assess our Lounge network and invest where we see the strongest opportunity”, and flagged that customers can expect more of the brand’s personality in the travel journey in the coming months.
Separately, Virgin Australia has launched WhatsApp customer service messaging for Beyond members, Velocity Platinum Plus members and Virgin Australia Business Flyer members, the airline’s loyalty program for small to medium-sized business owners. Eligible customers can use the channel for upgrades to Economy X or Business Class, eligible flight date and time changes, and general travel enquiries, subject to terms and conditions.
